HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Mithila region has historically been an epicentre of organized education and learning. Even during the Vedic age, it was known for renowned Vedic education and learning. Till India’s independence, the education scenario remained of high quality. However, by the end of the ’60s and early ’70s, the situation started changing alarmingly when the political scenario of Bihar started having its effects on colleges and universities. Turmoil in the campus life and classroom teaching virtually crippled the higher education system. The successive governments paid no heed to the plight of the students, and the entire education system suffered as a result. Now Bihar as a whole is counted among the most backward states of India and its educational system remains unable to cater to the rising demand of higher educational institutions.
Our patron, Dr. Syed Abdul Hakeem is a well-known figure in the literary circles of Darbhanga. He hails from the renowned Farid family who runs some of the most prestigious institutions in the city. In 1919, his Grandfather, Dr. Syed Mohammad Farid was given the responsibility of administering Madarsa Darul Uloom Ahmadiya Salfia which rose to great heights during his lifetime. Dr. Hakeem’s father, Dr. Syed Abdul Hafeez Salfi carried on the tradition and not only managed the madarsa admirably but also went on to establish other credible institutions. He was instrumental in establishing Millat College in the year 1957, Salfia School in the year 1962, and Salfia Unani Medical College in the year 1981.
Carrying on the legacy, Dr. Hakeem along with his associates established Scholar Public School in the year 2003. His drive to continue contributing to the field of education led to the establishment of the Oriental College of Education in the year 2007. With a rich heritage behind and an exciting future ahead, under his patron-ship, Salfia Paramedical Institute (SPI) has now started its journey.
